An Average Woman's Question

When you look at her,
what will you see?
An average woman
too plain to be
a photogenic
beauty queen,
just someone
in-between?

A woman with average hair and eyes,
of almost average body size,
who seldom, but who sometimes, cries,
a woman who always tries?

Will you see a smile, sincere yet plain,
how quietly she hides her pain,
feels soothed by the sound of rain,
who strives and stumbles to pray?

Will you see a woman not young, not old,
some days shy and some days bold,
who knows her value is more than gold,
yet still longs to be told?

An average woman, but not the same
as others who have called your name.
Will who she is make you run away,
or convince your heart to stay?

When you truly see her and you find
this average woman is her own kind,
perhaps not what you had in mind,
will you easily bid goodbye?

She will permit you to walk away,
not beg your indifferent heart to stay.
She has lived it all another day,
is prepared for hearts to sway.

She looks in the mirror and tries to believe,
"There is a man who will not leave,
one who will cherish the worth in me.
Far more than 'average' he'll see."
