When did I start getting old?
When did I become conscious of
how much water I drink,
how much sunscreen I use,
not carrying in too many groceries at once?
When did sleep become a priority?
When did I start believing that stress really can
destroy your physical and emotional health?
When did medical tests become a regular routine
instead of a rare occurrence?
When did I begin realizing that, indeed,
many people will take advantage of the kind-hearted?
When did I learn that living according to
others' expectations would nearly destroy me?
When did I accept that I will never be able to make some people happy,
yet realize that is actually not my job?
When did I first feel the strain of living how others want me to,
versus how I believe I should?
When did "no" become a word
I needed to place in my vocabulary more often?
When did I decide the way I have been doing things
simply isn't working anymore?
Have I become old or just more mature?
What have you learned as you have gotten older?
