I knew Jesus cried
and felt emotional pain.
I knew he poured out his heart
when he prayed to his Father.
I knew he experienced moments when he simply had to withdraw
from the people surrounding him.
But I only recently caught
onto the fact that his Father
was not the only one
Jesus spilled his emotions to:
He told his friends.
His agony gushed forth
to beloved disciples in the garden...
But even before that fateful moment---
he spoke these four words to select worshipers at the Feast:
"My heart is troubled."
"My heart is troubled." Those are not words that sound like
a person pridefully determined to carry all his burdens on his own.
Not words spoken by someone who is afraid
others would think less of him if they knew his true emotions.
Not words of someone who disguises deepest honesty even from devoted friends.
The Wonderful Counselor unleashed his heart to the ones he came to counsel.
The Son of the Creator confided in His Father's creation.
He didn't cloak his sorrow in shame or drape a mask over his brokenness.
He didn't attempt to carry his heartaches without the aid of close friends.
He came to heal shattered hearts, but also shared his.
The Resurrection and the Life didn't try to tackle life on his own---
And neither should we.
