Dear God,
For at least one day each year,
we recite our blessings.
We recall the abundance
you pour into our lives;
we dedicate our thankfulness to you.
If I thanked you for each gift
as it appeared,
my dialogue with you
would have no end.
But sometimes,
I fail to show my gratitude.
Perhaps I am preoccupied
or too focused on life's trials,
But for me,
often,
I simply fear.
I am afraid
that if I delight in your benevolence,
and overflow with praise,
rejoice in your provision,
that it will be snatched away from me.
The losses of life have taught me to fear
holding anything precious too closely
or feeling certain hopes too deeply.
Forgive me.
I am sorry.
Remind me that fear
does not come from you.
Invite me
to taste of your goodness.
Bid me to cherish each blessing
and turn to you
in lavish praise
with a heart of trustful thanksgiving.
Amen.
